The City of Lakes Chorus has been dazzling audiences in the Minneapolis / St. Paul metro area and around the country since 1952. We are an award-winning chorus of approximately 95 voices with a long history of excellence. We've placed 1st in every Regional competition in which we've taken part since 1967, and have placed in the top 10 finalists in 17 of the 19 International Competitions we've entered since 1971.
The main purpose of City of Lakes Chorus is to get out and sing for our community. We sing at annual shows, a number of community events, and at annual competitions. We also perform Singing Telegrams around Valentine's Day. We are available to sing at your next function or event. In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of a cappella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals, and a very important component of the chorus experience. Several times a year, we will get coaching from a visiting master in the art of barbershop, where we learn many fabulous tricks of the trade.
In the spring, City of Lakes Chorus participates in the Region 6 chorus competition. Competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses from our region to come together to sing for each other, and get some constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the Regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories get to travel to International Competition, which is held in the fall in a city selected each year. City of Lakes Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a non-profit organization of approximately 30,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. The Headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
